How to be a member

 
All advocates and solicitors of the High Court of Malaya practising within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur shall be deemed to be members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.

Where a firm has a branch in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, all partners of that firm (irrespective of where they are based) must be a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.

All advocates and solicitors intending to practise or open a branch office within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur are to give notice of their intention to commence legal practice in Kuala Lumpur and pay their annual subscription to the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee.

Members must be in possession of valid Practising Certificate to carry out active practice. Please check with the Bar Council (council@malaysianbar.org.my or tel: 603-2031 3003) pertaining to applications for Sijil Annual and Practising Certificate.

 
Qualifications for admission to the Bar in Malaysia

The Qualifying Board, established under the Legal Profession Act, 1976 is responsible for the evaluation and recognition of qualifications for legal practice in Malaysia. The Board also conducts examination and awards Certificates in Legal Practice for those with recognised law degree but who are not eligible for direct admission.
