Arising from this, the Deputy Registrar has furnished us with the list of the fax numbers for the respective Registrars and the Judges' Secretaries of the said Division for members' reference.   more...             Appeal for Funds for the 4 Bar members detained under the ISA As you may be aware, a sum of RM43,000 was collected since the fund was set up in May 2008 and the Bar Council had disbursed the collections to the families of the 4 lawyers with each family receiving RM10,750. A big thank you to all those members who have contributed towards the fund. While the 4 lawyers remain in detention, their families continue to suffer and face financial hardship. The hunt which has now become a permanent fixture on KL Bar's social calendar managed to draw a record number of participants with a total of 91 teams participating and managed to raise a total of RM 13,200 for the Philea Home for children.  more...             Beware! Car Theft at the KL Court Complex, Jalan Duta The KLBC has received reports that a car was recently stolen from the car park at the KL Court Complex, Jalan Duta and a number of other cars were also broken into with smart-tags, laptops and handphones stolen. The Shah Alam Land Office has provided a list of the law firms concerned and members are advised to liaise with the Shah Alam Land Office for the collection of the documents.  more...             Power of Attorney (PA) Division: Rejection Form (Borang Penolakan) Following the meeting between the KL Bar Court Liaison Committee and the PA Division of the KL High Court on 4.7.2008, the Registrar in-charge of the said Division has provided the Rejection Form (Borang Penolakan) which contains a checklist of the common reasons for the rejection of registration of PA by the said Division. A warning to all lawyers The KLBC has received reports in relation to a man requesting for money from lawyers to save his kid who has severe bronchitis for an oxygen treatment outside the Duta Court Complex. If you do encounter a similar incident, please report to the police and the KLBC.              Practice Direction No. 1 of 2007 Guidelines on Inquest The Bar Council Criminal Law Committtee (BCCLC) has requested the KLBC to disseminate the Practice Direction No. 1 of 2007 - Guidelines on Inquest dated 05.01.2007 issued by the then Chief Judge of Malaya, to members for their information in the conduct of inquest proceedings.
