The Malaysian Bar KL Legal Aid Centre
 
 

The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee established 11 Sub-committees to undertake a host of projects and activities involving lawyers and others. The brief essential details of each of the Sub-committees are as follows:

Civil Court Liaison Committee
The Sub-Committee will be divided into the High Court and Subordinate Courts sections. Brendan Navin Siva will Chair the Civil Court Liaison (High Court) and Ravin Singh will Chair the Civil Court Liaison (Subordinate Courts);
Continuous engagement and discussions with the Judiciary for the improvement of the administration of justice;
Setting in place procedures and system to enhance the practice of law in the KL Courts;
Dealing with complaints of members of the KL Bar in relation to their practice in the KL Courts.
 
Conveyancing Practice Committee
To identify and resolve issues and complaints of members of the KL Bar in the area of conveyancing and to also assist members in dealing with the Land Offices, Stamp Duty Offices; Bahagian Pinjaman Perumahan Perbendaharaan Malaysia, Banks, etc;
To enhance the relationship and communication with all parties involved in conveyancing practice (such as Land Office, Stamp Duty Offices, etc);
To work hand-in-hand with the Conveyancing Practice Committee of the Bar Council, Selangor Bar and other State Bars (as and when necessary) to achieve the above objectives.
 
Criminal Practice Committee
Continuous communication with the Criminal Courts, the Police and other relevant stakeholders for the betterment of administration of criminal justice;
Setting in place a procedure and system to enhance the practice of criminal law in the KL Courts;
Dealing with complaints of members of the KL Bar in relation to their criminal practice in the KL Courts.
 
Environmental & Humanities Committee
Creating awareness of environmental issues among lawyers and the public;
Building network with the relevant players in the industry and government. Highlighting and educating industry on key environmental issues and help develop the field of environmental practice in Malaysia;
Reviewing and if required, proposing changes to Malaysian legislation affecting the environment with a view to an efficient and concerted protection of the environment;
Engaging stakeholders on environmental issues;
Education and training on environmental issues;
Complaints and intervention;
Community and cultural projects;
Environmental ethics;
Promoting, protecting and development of culture and society;
Promoting integration of society and environment.
 
Information Technology (IT) Committee
Promoting the use of IT by lawyers;
Exploring new ways in which IT can improve members' professional practice;
Responsible for improving the communication of the KL Bar Committee with members on issues and concerns of members;
Responsible for the enhancement of the IT system at the KL Bar Secretariat;
Overseeing the management of the KL Bar Website (www.klbar.org.my);
Creating public awareness on Laws related to Information Technology;
Suggesting Law Reforms on Laws related to Information Technology;
Professional Development Courses on Laws related to Information Technology for members.
