Notes of Meeting between KL Bar Civil Court Liaison Committee and KL Family Court on 24.05.2010

On the 24.05.2010 the KL Bar Civil Court Liaison Committee’s Family Court Sub Committee met YA Datin Yeoh Wee Siam and Puan Nurzafirah Bt Mohamed Ali of the Kuala Lumpur Family Court. As a result of that meeting it has now been agreed in pursuance of the Divorce and Matrimonial Proceedings Rules 1980 that in divorce cases legal firms are required to file three (3) copies of the Decree Nisi (one for the court and two sealed copies to be returned to the firm for each party) There is no longer a need to file a CTC after obtaining the sealed first copy. Likewise you are required to file four (4) copies of the Decree Absolute (one for the court, one to be extended to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara and two copies to be returned to the firm for each party).

Few other issues were discussed and the following are the outcome:

1.       The Learned Judicial Commissioner has on her behalf requested that solicitors attending the Family Court in Kuala Lumpur do so on time at 9.00am and at 8.30am as of next month.

2.                The Learned Judicial Commissioner further requested that solicitors do comply with the given directions on written submissions on time so as to ensure the smooth running of the Family Court in Kuala Lumpur.

3.                The reason why the Family Court has stopped displaying a Court List is because the Family Court has begun implementing an electronic mode and would like solicitors to go through the web to site the list.

4.                The Court will no longer provide notes of evidence during the trials. Hence parties will have to prepare their own sets of notes of evidence and this will be verified by the court for its accuracy.
