Bar Committee Document Boxes (BC Boxes)
01. Which are the Courts that have BC Boxes?
  1. KL High Court – Civil Div./Family Div./Appellate & Special Powers Div./Bailiff
2. KL High Court – Commercial Div./Bankruptcy Div.
3. KL Sessions Courts
4. KL Magistrates Courts
02. Where do I apply for the BC Boxes and what are the charges like?
  KL Bar Secretariat. Deposit of RM50.00 per box (one-off payment but refundable upon return of the box and not in breach of any of the terms and conditions) and Rental of RM50.00 per box per year.
03. Where and how do I report if my BC Box or its lock is spoilt?
  Fax a note on your firm's letterhead to the KL Bar Secretariat (Fax: 26911090) and specify the BC Box number, its location and the problem (eg jammed lock, box cover is loose etc)
04. What should I do if I have lost the key(s) to my BC Boxes?
  You may apply for duplicate keys at RM2.00 each from the KL Bar Secretariat. Fax a note on your firm’s letterhead to the KL Bar Secretariat (Fax: 26911090) and specify the BC Box number and its location. You may pay in advance or at the time of collection of the duplicate key(s)
05. Can I request for the change of the lock to my BC Boxes? If yes, how do I go about it?
  Yes you can but the charges would have to be borne by you. Fax your request on your firm's letterhead to the KL Bar Secretariat (Fax: 26911090) specifying the BC Box number and its location with an undertaking to pay the necessary charges (approx. between RM45.00 and RM50.00 per lock)
06. I can't find the answer to my question? What do I do?

Membership
01. What is the requirement to be a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar?
  You have to be an Advocate & Solicitor practising in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (KL) and hold a valid Practising Certificate.
02. How do I join the Kuala Lumpur Bar?
  You will have to give notification to the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC) using the Notice of Intention to Commence Legal Practice in Kuala Lumpur Form. Information on the subscription payable can be found in the Notice.
03. Must I notify the Bar Council or any other State Bar Committee of my commencement of practice in KL?
  Yes, you must notify the Bar Council. In respect of other State Bar Committees, you need to only notify the State Bar Committee where you have practised in prior to moving to KL.
04. Can I be a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar if I am not in practice or practising in another State?
  No, you can't but you may choose to be on the mailing list and/or e-mail database of the KLBC to receive notices/circulars/bulletins, etc issued/published by the KLBC. If you choose to be on both the mailing list and e-mail database, you are required to pay a fee of RM50.00 to the KLBC. You will not be charged any fee if you choose to be on the e-mail database only. Send a letter to the KL Bar Secretariat of your intention to be on the mailing list and/or e-mail database and provide your forwarding address and e-mail address. If you choose to be on both the mailing list and e-mail database, you are required to forward together with your letter a cheque for RM50.00 made payable to KUALA LUMPUR BAR COMMITTEE.
05. Do I need to be registered as a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar if I am practising in another State which firm has a branch office in KL?
  Yes, if you are a partner. No, if you are a legal assistant.
06. How do I notify the KLBC if I change my place of practice?
  Just forward to the KLBC via e-mail (ros@klbar.org.my) or fax (03-2691 1090) a copy of the Form for Change of Address/Practice that you are required to submit to the Bar Council.
07. How do I notify the KLBC if I change my contact numbers?
  Just e-mail (ros@klbar.org.my) or fax (03-2691 1090) your new contact numbers together with your full name and Bar Council membership code or NRIC number.
08. I can’t find the answer to my question? What do I do?

Posting of Vacancy Notice
01. How do I post a Vacancy Notice on the KLBC Website and e-mail group and what are the charges?
  You can find the info in "Legal Vacancies" under "Vacancies/Classifieds" on our Website
02. How do I place a Vacancy Notice on all the KLBC notice boards and what are the charges?
  Type out the Notice adhering to the "Website Vacancy Notice" format and in A5 (landscape) size (ie half A4). E-mail (tini@klbar.org.my) or fax the notice to the KL Bar Secretariat (Fax: 26911090) with a request to place it on the KL Bar’s notice boards. There is no charge
