About the Speaker

Dato’ Thavalingam joined Zaid Ibrahim & Co. as a Partner in July 2000 from Shearn Delamore & Co, where he was part of the Industrial Relations Department for 10 years. He has been in practise for nearly 18 years.

He was a member of the Industrial Court Practice Committee of the Bar Council and had served the Committee for ten (10) years. He is currently the Honorary Secretary of the MEF (Malaysian Employers Federation) and the Editorial Advisor to the Industrial Law Reports (ILR) of Malaysia. In 2008, he was appointed by the Government of Malaysia to sit on the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC) for a two year term.

He has extensive litigation experience in different levels of courts including the Labour Court, Industrial Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. He has also advised extensively on matters relating to dismissal and employment issues arising from both business reorganisations and mergers and acquisitions of corporations.
