Pupils are required to furnish the KLBC Secretariat with their e-mail address for the Secretariat to process their Petition and e-mail to them the relevant documents and formalities that pupils have to comply with.
4. APPLICATION UNDER SECTION 36(2) LPA COMMONLY KNOWN AS "SHORT CALL APPLICATION"
BORANG 3, BORANG 4 and BORANG 5 are for the "Short Call Application”. Applications for "Short Call" are made by Masters and should only be made after the Petitions for Admission are filed. Pupils cannot appear in Court in respect of any matter until the "Short Call" Order has been granted by the Court. The filing fee payable is RM36.00.
5. SERVICE OF "SHORT CALL" ORDER
"Short Call" Order must be filed, extracted and a copy to be given to the Bar Council and State Bar Committee. There is no necessity to file an Affidavit of Service for the service of "Short Call" Order.
6. BAHASA MALAYSIA QUALIFYING EXAMINATION
The Qualifying Board will grant exemption to pupils who have obtained a credit in the SPM or its equivalent. Those who do not qualify for exemption are advised to apply to the Board to sit for the Examination immediately to avoid their Admission to the Bar being delayed. Pupils are advised to study carefully the Bahasa Malaysia version of the Rules of Court.
7. COMPULSORY LEGAL AID DUTY
Pupils are required to serve a minimum of 14 days compulsory Legal Aid Duty pursuant to the Bar Council Ruling 10.06.
8. COMPULSORY ETHICS & PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS COURSE
Pupils are required to attend a compulsory Ethics & Professional Standards Course organised by the Bar Council and must pass the written exam at the end of the Course. Pupils who passed the exam will be issued with a Certificate by the Bar Council. Pupils are advised to attend personally at the Bar Council to collect the Course materials and sign up for the Course not later than 3 months after commencing pupillage. The fee payable is RM150. 9. MEET THE KLBC MEMBERS SESSION
Pupils are required to meet members of the KLBC to introduce themselves for the purpose of the Confidential Report to be submitted by the KLBC to the Bar Council under Section 14(2) of the LPA 1976. Pupils are to contact the KLBC Secretariat to fix the date for the introduction session and are advised to fix the appointment latest by the 3rd month of pupillage.
10. REFEREES
For the purpose of the Confidential Report, pupils are also required to submit to the KLBC as early as possible the names and contact details of two Referees. The two Referees so named must be persons other than their Master or any other person related to them. They must also be professionally qualified or of a similar standing and know the pupil for a minimum of five (5) years.
