PWC Dialogue on the Ethics and Professional Standards (EPS) Examination
The September session was held on 7 September 2011 at 5.00pm. Pupils were briefed on the purpose of the EPS course and examination as well as the expectations of the Bar Council Professional Standards & Development Committee. A total of 61 pupils attended the briefing which was presented by Puan Hendon Mohamed where valuable tips were offered to pupils sitting for the examination.

KLBC Pupils Introduction Session
Organised by the KL Bar Pupils Welfare Committee (PWC), the introduction session for September was held on 8 September 2011. The session, attended by 65 pupils, was led by Ravin Singh and Jason Kong. Pupils were briefed on the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee and highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their period of pupillage and the Chairman and members of the KLBC were on hand to provide input and possible solutions. Amongst the issues raised by the pupils at this session were e-filing, allowance, training, the Ethics course, the Legal Aid Programme and limited exposure.

YLC – A Day with the Young Lawyers at INTI, Nilai
The second KL Bar Young Lawyers Committee (KLYLC) University Visit was to INTI University in Nilai on 10 September 2011. It was a half day event that started at about 10.30am. Approximately 35 law students attended this event. A full report will follow soon.

YLC – A Day with the Young Lawyers at UKM
The third KL Bar Young Lawyers Committee (KLYLC) University Visit was to University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on 17 September 2011. It was a half day event that started at about 10.30am. Approximately 100 law students attending this event. A full report will follow soon.

PWC Workshop on Criminal Litigation
The workshop, organised by the KL Bar Pupils Welfare Committee specifically for pupils, was presented by Mr Arimuthu Peritamby on 21 September 2011 at 3.00pm. The workshop focused primarily on client interview, mitigation, bail application and trial process. The workshop was attended by 16 participants.

Conveyancing Practice Hi-Tea and Get Together
The KL Bar Conveyancing Practice Committee (CyPC) had successfully organised the 2nd Hi-Tea and Get-together on 22 September 2011. This time the Ballroom of the Royal Selangor Club at Jalan Raja was the chosen venue. The event was well attended by the conveyancing lawyers. The invited guests were mainly from Pejabat Tanah dan Galian Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri. The Directors of both agencies were present at this gathering. PDC Seminar on an Introduction to Dissolution of Marriage Under the Syariah Laws
Amir Bahari from Bahari & Bahari presented the seminar which was held at the KL Bar Auditorium at 9.00am. The seminar was attended by 21 participants. The seminar covered the following areas: “interviewing the client”, “mediation”, “grounds of dissolution of marriage”, “the rights of the parties”, “appointing the peguam Syarie” and “divorce for expatriate Muslim”.

The KLBC sponsored 10 members of the KL Bar to attend the 5th China-ASEAN Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development that was held in Malaysia on 26 and 27 September 2011 at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This event was co-hosted by the Bar Council Malaysia, China Law Society, ASEAN Law Association of Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (“KLRCA”).

Jeremiah R Gurusamy from Arianti Dipendra Jeremiah presented the seminar which was held at the KL Bar Auditorium at 3.00pm. The seminar was attended by 113 participants. The presentation covered the following areas: “parties to a sale and purchase transaction”, “property with and without individual title”, “direct developer and subsale transactions”, “conveyancing and retail banking documentation and common mistakes and how to avoid them”.

The seminar covered the following areas: “procedure of marriage under Syariah laws”, “registering overseas marriage in Malaysia”, “the effect of non registration of overseas marriage”, “procedure of polygamy under Syariah laws and scenarios”.

YLC Charity Night 2011 – The Bar Gives Back
The KL Bar Young Lawyers Charity Night 2011 was held on 30 September 2011 at Seduction, KL (Below Modesto’s), Jalan P Ramlee from 7.00pm onwards and featured 8 performances by young lawyers who competed in raising the most funds for charity. Total collections from the performances on the night were RM38,717.00 and more than 1000 tickets were sold. A full report will follow soon.
